Coin Collecting

Collecting coin is known as the "Hobby of The King".
Long long ago there was a king named 'Shantonu' in India and now I am the King of my Coin World.

As I passed my childhood in Iran with my family (Dad worked under the Health Ministry of the Iranian Govt. for 10 years), the Iranian people have a tradition to gift banknotes to the host when they are invited in any occasion, I got some banknotes as gift. Then I started collecting coin when I was a student of class four or five. But I was never serious. And with the passing of time I was losing my interest. So, last few years I could collect only a dozen of them.

Now the come-backing story: On the year 2008, we visited Nepal and India as study tour arranged by our university. When I was doing some shopping in Nepal, I was very much amazed with the banknotes and coins of Nepal. Those were really beautiful with colors. Then I remembered that I had a great hobby and  decided to start my collecting again. Before going Nepal I had coins/banknotes from 34 countries, and now have 165.

Mom and Dad went to Thailand for mom's medical purpose few years ago and when they returned, brought some coins/banknotes for me. That was the pre-beginning of my second innings.

Once I collected stamps (it was my first hobby), airlines' tickets, phonecards, books, postcards etc. but now I collect only coins/banknotes.

I like history of ancient civilizations, countries and cultures.
Coins can tell you a story about the cultures of other countries with their habits and religion. Look at all the different symbols and different dates. See how countries changed from kingdoms into republics and sometimes from republics into kingdoms. Coins are the perfect time evidence of a country.

I am very good in geography. I know all countries' location in the world map, their capital, almost all flags. I achieved 14th position in the "World Ranking" of TravelPod™ Traveler IQ Challenge™, Asia.

I like to travel a lot. I have visited 47 districts out of 64 in Bangladesh. I have also visited some countries (United Arab Emirates, Iran, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Canada, Brunei, Malaysia) around the world.
